Feedback

The documents on this page are for use by faculty members who are evaluating the educational materials produced by the project “The New Genetics: Electronic Tools for Educational Innovation.” Either electronic or paper copies of materials are fine! Please send electronic copies to Dr. Mary Pat Huxley and paper copies to Dr. Sally Tobin.

The first priority is to obtain clearance from your institution before any students are involved in evaluations. This requirement applies to faculty members in both the Core and Intensive Groups.

Step One: Before You Begin Evaluations

Students cannot be involved in evaluations until approval by your institution has been obtained as explained below. A letter expressing institutional agreement is required by Stanford University and is a condition of participation. For you convenience, a template is provided below.

If your institution has an Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the protection of human subjects, then you will need IRB approval. We can assist you with this process. Documentation from the Stanford IRB is provided below. If your institution does not have an IRB, you will need a letter of agreement from the appropriate institutional official (we can help with this also).  Please contact Dr. Mary Pat Huxley if you need assistance. We aim to make this process as smooth and trouble-free as possible.

Step Two: Evaluations

For All Participating Faculty:

All faculty members are asked to fill out the Faculty Assessment with the help of the Faculty Rubric.

Students who used the on-line courseware need to fill out the Student Assessment of Courseware Design, which gives us feedback about the design of the Web pages but not the content. All participating students need to turn in a Student Assessment of Courseware and Worksheet Content.

For Intensive Group Faculty Members Only

Faculty members in the Intensive Group (and any Core Group volunteers) have agreed to take part in an analysis of the Tests and Measures that they have devised to assess the performance of their students. Please fill out the Tests and Measures Questionnaire below and send in tests as described in the Request for Tests. A single page from a sample test is/will be posted. A form to assess the level of mastery attained by students is/will also be posted.

Step Three: After the Evaluation Activities - for Faculty Members in the Intensive Group Only

When evaluation activities are completed, Intensive Group faculty members are asked to fill out a W-9 form and an invoice (see sample below). Please mail both to Sally so that they can be submitted for payment.
